Helping Haiti

The devastation in Haiti has touched all of our hearts. According to the International Red Cross, up to 3 million people have been affected and thousands are feared dead. Many victims have taken to sleeping in the streets.

Starting Monday, January 18, all fifteen Fox Communities Credit Union branches will be collecting funds to send for the relief efforts in Haiti. All funds collected at Fox Communities will be sent to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, Inc. who will make sure the funds get to the appropriate place for disbursement. To donate with cash or check please stop into any Fox Communities Credit Union location. Checks made payable to Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, Inc. which is a 501(c)(3), may be tax deductible. To donate online, visit www.woccu.org/give. The FBI warns of Haitian earthquake relief fund scams. By directing people to Fox Communities Credit Union and this website, we are giving the community a safe place to deposit funds.

According to the World Council of Credit Unions, there is an active credit union movement in Haiti made up of 175 credit unions serving more than 400,000 members. WOCCU launched a program in Haiti last July to bring savings and credit products to people living in poverty. They sent sixteen staff members to run the program last July and they all survived the earthquake and are now preparing to assist local relief efforts. Read more about this staff here.
